MARCH focus: GET-UPS
Why work on GET-UPS? Working on getting up from the floor is important because it’s a good indicator of overall physical health and longevity, reflecting core stability, leg strength, hip mobility, and balance, all key attributes for a healthy and active life.
Here’s why it’s beneficial:
Indicator of Physical Health: The ability to get up from the floor without using your hands is a powerful indicator of physical health and longevity.

Core Stability: It requires engaging your core muscles to stabilize your body.

Leg Strength: It tests the power in your quadriceps, hamstrings, and calves to push you up.

Hip Mobility: It assesses the flexibility and range of motion in your hips.
Balance: It requires maintaining your balance throughout the movement.
Reduced Risk of Falls: Strengthening these areas can help reduce the risk of falls and injuries, especially as you age.

Improved Quality of Life: Maintaining independence and the ability to perform daily activities without assistance is crucial for a high quality of life.

Longevity: A recent study demonstrated that the ability to easily get up from a seated position without arm support is a strong predictor of overall mortality.
