After a week off from teaching fitness classes, I decided to open the year with a fitness test! I chose the Plank Test. It’s simple. Clients can practice at home. And it’s a great test of core endurance. Little do they know there will be a FINAL EXAM at the end of 2016.

Here’s why I’m committing to more regular fitness testing in my classes and with clients:
1) Progress doesn’t always come in the form of a beautiful bicep or 6-pack abs. In fact, that majority of my clients FEEL change before they see change. But isn’t feeling it the best part? Add in a log of recorded results and your motivation WILL stay boosted! The visible results in your workout log might end up more satisfying than the visible results at the beach.

2) Performance tests keep us honest!
Let’s face it, if we’re getting it done in the gym on a regular basis we can get comfortable. Routine and habits are RAD, my friend, don’t get me wrong, but most of us are going to train what we like to train. I want my people to have a well rounded fitness program. After all, we’re only as strong as our weakest link. I am NOT letting this sneak past us!

3) Failing to plan is planning to fail. That’s the quote, right? The plan can be simple. You could choose to do a Plank Test on the first of every month and that’s it! As simple as that is, it’s a PLAN and it gives you something to shoot for.

5 Steps to take the Plank Test at home:
1) Grab a mat or towel for elbow comfort! You’re gonna be here a while…
2) Grab a timer.
3) Lock in your forearm plank. Hold the plank for as long as possible! If your hips rise or lower – you’re cut off! Grab a BFF for this if possible as it’s hard to see your own awesomeness without straining your neck towards a mirror. Here’s my 60 second plank demo to show you exactly how to do it:

4) Record the date and time.
5) Set an alert for your next test date – one month from today!

Cheers to our core endurance, my friend!

xoxo,
Katie
