89 days ago, I made a list of goals for the final months of the year. Included on the list was Trapeze class at TSNY – Chicago. I’d need to be a world class writer to capture my enthusiasm for the class; so I’ll let my picture and top 5 list say it best:

1) Embrace fear or it will own you. Yikes! Do we temper fear by simply doing things we are afraid of, like the quote seen everywhere? Fear is natural and it’s super important to evaluate where it comes from. My reason for trying class had little to do with the actual act of trapeze and everything to with putting my trust in other human beings. I’m not afraid of heights and lovelovelove being upside-down. But I began to notice in the past few months, I’m less and less trusting of my fellow human beings. I feel myself becoming afraid to trust and my mission is to not go any further down that path. My belief in human kindness, that we are helpers at heart and that we are all doing the best we can keeps me happy. Brad, Claire, Brian, Hannah and Bonnie – thank you for being proof. Feel your fear, embrace it and keep going.

2) Choose what runs your life. What other people think of me is none of my business. My performance anxiety nerves kicked in full throttle at Trapeze class! My goal is to put myself in more situations where I know these nerves will kick in so I can train those little beasts! The tendency can be to avoid, at ALL costs, situations where we feel this yucky stuff. Let’s not let it run our lives!

3) CREATING > WAITING This one’s pretty simple. Make your list of things you want to do. For each item, make a list of steps you need to do it. Break it down into bitty pieces. Example: Research Trapeze School. Map travel time. Evaluate cost. Read FAQ. Set date. Register for class. Print receipt. The bitty steps make it possible. My guru, Chalene Johnson, calls it reverse engineering. Basically, break it down into manageable ACTION steps!

4) Fun! That’s it. Do something today for pure FUN.

5) Trapeze is the closest I’ve come to flying. You should join me next time.

I want to hear your list! Share one of your goals in the comments below!

Katie
